While considerable attention has focused on disparities in health, data show that very little has been accomplished to close the gaps in health status experienced by different segments of the population. In Connecticut many of these disparities continue to grow, indicating that strategies must be developed and actions must be taken to address health disparities. To that end, the Connecticut Association of Directors of Health has established the Health Equity Alliance (HEA).
On May 13, 2010 The Health Equity Alliance hosted Acting Local, Thinking Global: Setting the Stage for Action on Community Conditions Affecting health. The event featured Dr. Brian Smedley, Vice President and Director for the Health Policy Institute at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.
